The Black Man - Barck and Curtis

This is a thoughtful and short documentary about Black men in America, who they are and who they are perceived to be. The examples are Barack Obama and Curtis Jackson (he gets money!) - perceived to be on opposite sides of the Black man spectrum. President Obama: the Harvard graduate, middle-upper class, family man, community organizer...; Curtis Jackson: gangster turned rap artist, millionaire, from the hood, hard...

Before Barack Obama came onto the scene, 50 cent was the general idea of the Black man. Young boys want to be that type of man - who gets all the females, sells drugs, gets money by any means necessary, a thug. Even I wanted that type of man. As I've matured however, I expect a little of both. I want a man who's intelligent and sensitive, but with a rough exterior. He has to be successful and goal-oriented, powerful, fun-loving and all that other great stuff. I think 50 cent and Barack Obama both have these qualities, as do all males. It's just a matter of us really getting down to who we are and being that person, instead of being the person others expect or want us to be.
